One of the reasons bricks and mortar businesses have such a difficult time during a recession is that they are fully dependent upon the local community for their support. Especially in towns where the main employer may be undergoing large-scale layoffs or even a business closure, the entire community suffers because the amount of disposable income declines dramatically. When all of the neighbors on the block are unemployed, even if they want to spend money in your bricks and mortar store, they can’t. Furthermore, anyone who operates a typical bricks and mortar business draws customers from a relatively limited geographical area.

Large national retailers may have the advantage of drawing from a slightly larger radius, but in the event of a regional recession, they suffer as well. Only with an infusion of cash and customers from outside of a financially distressed region can affected businesses continue to operate and succeed. Recessionary woes tend to create a cascade effect as a large-scale regional employer begins to crumble, and then everything else in the community follows.

The Internet however is a different story. The Internet connects over 1 billion people globally, it is open for business 24/7, seven days a week. Even in a global recession, there are still people in the world who have money to spend, and who are spending it. By being able to access these people, and tapping into their stream of commerce, an online entrepreneur can effectively defeat the consequences of the recession.

Starting a home-based Internet marketing business is relatively easy. Start by conducting an online search to find opportunities that will allow you to get started quickly, with minimal investment of time and money. By finding an online opportunity that provides comprehensive training, support, and coaching, even the most inexperienced entrepreneur will be able to launch a business quickly, and efficiently.

Finding the right online opportunity is simply a matter of understanding your strengths and interests, and then finding something that will allow you to work at a job that you enjoy. The Internet marketplace is a dynamic and robust venue, and has created more millionaires in the past five years than in the entire history of mankind. If the recession has hurt you, and has distressed your entire community, think about starting an online business, for salvation and success.

It is not uncommon for home-based entrepreneurs to forget the fact that they are in fact running a business. Working from home offers many conveniences and luxuries. You do not have to deal with the daily commute, you do not have to deal with surly coworkers, and you do not have to deal with a demanding boss either. The refrigerator is within easy reach, as is the couch. The problem with all this of course is that it is extremely easy to get distracted.

The first and most important aspect of working from home is to have the discipline necessary to actually work. There are stories about entrepreneurs who take this to an extreme and actually dress in a suit and tie or office appropriate attire in order to set the tone for their daily labors. This might be an extreme, but it is a thought in the right direction.

Working from home is exceptionally comfortable and convenient. It is something that anybody can take advantage of it they are fed up with the daily grind and their job in general. But once again it is critical to realize that working from home is not a hobby. It is not time to surf the Internet, chat with friends, and send social e-mails. As with any other job, time is money and in a home-based business enterprise even more so.

The home-based entrepreneur must first accept the fact that their primary inventory, their primary resource for sale, is time. The key to a profitable home-based business is to leverage time properly so you get the maximum bang for the buck. You need to work hard and focus on the tasks at hand and make sure that you monetize your labor, so that a steady paycheck continues to flow into your life.

A home-based business also needs the same managerial systems that any other business requires – bookkeeping, the paying of taxes, marketing, and everything else that a business must do in order to survive, succeed, and make money.

The good news is that anybody can work from home if they choose to. Particularly today with the Internet offering so many opportunities for home-based business ventures, it is relatively easy to get started and only requires a modest investment of time and effort. Go online and find a home-based business that might work for you.
